NC Building Services Engineering - Full-time

Description: A one year full time course, the National Certificate is aimed at providing students with an introductory level of knowledge in the basic principles of Building Services Engineering. The course focus is on the design, installation, maintenance and management of a building’s services systems i.e. Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning.

 

Content: Construction Technology  and Design | Building Services Science, | Building Services Technology | Thermofluids | Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology | Analytical Methods | Health and Safety and Welfare | Heating and Plumbing Technology | Energy Utilisation & Efficiency | Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources | Graphical Detailing | Electrical Technology | Services Design Project | Refrigeration Technology.

Entry Requirements: The qualification is intended primarily for people who are in, or plan to enter employment within the building services sector.

  • Standard grades in appropriate science or technology subject(s)
  • A craft qualification e.g. an SVQ in a Building Services Engineering Discipline
  • A National Certificate in a related discipline
  • Those with other qualifications and experience within the Building Services Engineering sector, subject to interview.

Qualifications & Progression: Upon successful completion the student receives the SQA award “National Certificate in Building Services Engineering” and allows progression to the Higher National Certificate in Building Services Engineering. Equally the NC meets the entry requirements for Degree programmes in Building Services Engineering and other engineering related degree programmes. Successful students can apply for Incorporate membership of CIBSE and register as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) with the Engineering Council.
