North Glasgow College has very close links with a full range of schools and many of our students come to college direct from leaving school or even begin their involvement with the college while still at school. We actively seek to work with schools and their pupils to offer a wider range of opportunities for both. We also work with a number of partner agencies and councils to deliver the best service for the range of needs which pupils from all levels and types of school backgrounds require.
A Pre-employment training course is ideal for school pupils who are finding it difficult to decide which trade they would like to specialise in, in the future. It gives students the opportunity to try different trades and make an informed decision about the trade that suits them.
National Progression Award:
National Progression Awards (NPAs) are designed to help people reach their goals. NPAs are available in a variety of sectors. Including areas such as Construction and Plant Maintenance. They are aimed at assessing a defined set of skills and knowledge in specialist vocational areas. They also link to National Occupational Standards, which are the basis of SVQs.
NPAs are at SCQF Levels 2-6 and are successfully delivered in partnership between schools, colleges and employers. They are mainly used by colleges for short study programmes, such as return-to-work courses or part-time learning for those already in work.
Most courses at an Introduction level require no entry qualifications. These courses are ideal for individuals who have not gained the qualifications that are required for a higher level entry. Successful completion of an Intro levelled course will allow the student to progress on to either an NQ or HN programme.
If you are interested in an Introduction to Childcare the minimum entry requirements are 3 standard grades at general or equivalent, including English.
National Qualification (NQ)
Most NQ courses require candidates to have gained relevant qualifications to gain access to their chosen NQ. For example to gain access to an NQ Electrical Maintenance and Control you must have gained bands 2 – 4 in Standard grades but for an NQ Engineering Practice/Factory Maintenance requires 3 standard grades at level 3 or above.
Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D)
An HNC course requires that students have gained either an appropriate group of credit passes – depending on the subject chosen - or an NQ suitable for entry into their chosen course.
