Vocational - Event Management Unit

This class will commence on Tuesday 24 January 2012 at 6pm and is held in room 217a on the second floor

DESCRIPTION: This unit is designed to provide candidates with an overview of elements of the events industry. It will introduce the candidate to the scope of the industry including the types of events organised and their characteristics; the venues and resources used for events and the key personnel that organise events. On completion the candidates will have the underpinning and theoretical knowledge that could be put into practice in the planning, development and evaluation of an event. The unit input is generic therefore this event could be from a variety of specialist areas i.e. Leisure, Recreation, the Arts, Community, etc.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: This is an introduction to field of event management and no formal entry qualifications are required. It would be desirable for candidates to have a genuine interest in the event management sector and previous experience of involvement in events, either as a participant or a volunteer would be advantageous. The unit also requires the candidate to submit written assessment materials and be involved in class discussions and presentations, therefore a reasonable level of communication skills, both written and oral are required.
